Talks continue in the U.S. Senate about the future of the infrastructure and reconciliation packages that passed the House. It appears that the free Community College proposal is no longer on the table in these negotiations. There remain, however, provisions for workforce and infrastructure that we will be monitoring. Rep. Axne also recently announced she is co-sponsoring a bill to expand the Health Profession Opportunity Grant Program (HPOG), which provides career pathways to Americans while also addressing workforce shortages in high-skilled fields like nursing. This program is not currently available in Iowa and an expansion could provide for that.
