This week was a big one for Community Colleges for Iowa! On Monday, we hosted 150 students from across the state at our Student Legislative Seminar (see photos here). We had a great panel of legislators answering student questions and an amazing keynote speaker, Adam Carroll. That evening, Indian Hills Community College worked with us to host the Phi Theta Kappa Awards. We had a record number of Iowans earning national recognition and it was a wonderful night. On Tuesday, we held the annual Community College Day on the Hill (see photos here). All 15 colleges hosted booths with interactive demonstrations of their programs. Many students, staff, faculty, leaders, and Trustees attended. We had great participation from legislators. Both the House and Senate passed resolutions honoring Iowa’s Community Colleges. The Governor and Lt. Governor also attended, and the Governor signed a proclamation as well. Thank you to everyone who was able to participate and support the day.
This week was also the first “funnel” deadline where all bills need to be approved in committee in at least one chamber to move forward. Check the bill tracker to see what survived.
