Recently, the film CODA (which stands for Child Of Deaf Adults) took home three Oscar awards. This groundbreaking movie offers a window into the intricacies of the Deaf community that has brought both elation and tears to many. 

People with disabilities make up 20% of the USA population, and the Ruderman Foundation estimates that 95% of characters with disabilities are played by able-bodied actors on television. The lack of representation points to a systemic problem of ableism in the television industry but also in society.
