Introduction from Emily Shields

This week, the House approved their education budget in subcommittee and committee. They proposed a $6.5 million increase to Community College General Aid (just over 3%). The linked table below compares their budget with last year’s and the Governor’s recommendations. It’s important to note that while this does not reflect our full ask, it is one of the highest increases in the entire education budget and we are grateful to members of the House for their support. Additionally, the Senate has not yet released their version and negotiations are just beginning between the two chambers. We are continuing to advocate for our ask for a $14 million increase and the real needs across Iowa’s Community Colleges that it reflects.
