This week was quiet in terms of issues directly impacting Community Colleges. The first legislative deadline of the session is coming up in two weeks. Most policy bills must advance through a full committee in either chamber by March 5 to be eligible for further consideration in the session. There are exceptions to this rule including bills related to appropriations and taxes. There are several new bills targeting freedom of speech issues on college campuses. We are looking at all of those and having conversations with legislators about their intent and impact. It was also announced that the State’s Revenue Estimating Conference will be held on March 19.
