This week kept us busy at the Capitol and online. On Tuesday, I presented with NIACC President Steve Schulz to the House Education Budget Subcommittee. The presentation went well, with only one question related to our federal funding. You can find the handouts that we shared on our web site here. Feel free to use them in your local communities! We also participated in the ACCT Virtual National Legislative Summit. It was great to see Iowa represented with Hawkeye Community College Trustee Jay Nardini moderating a discussion on rural Community Colleges that included Indian Hills President Matt Thompson. We also began meetings with Iowa’s Congressional Delegation. So far, IACCT Trustees and Presidents have held virtual meetings with Congressman Feenstra, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks, Congresswoman Hinson, and the staff of Senators Grassley and Ernst (who were otherwise occupied this week with the impeachment trial). We are scheduled to meet with Congresswoman Axne the week after next. These meetings have been a great opportunity to discuss our federal priorities, which you can find here. They have also given us to opportunity to share more background on Iowa’s Community Colleges, especially with the new members. Discussions of K-12 funding continued to dominate the Capitol this week. There are several new bills of interest to us in the Bill Watch, as well.
