What's New on the Hill?

And with that, we're still here. There are about 25 bills left for the legislature to hash out and come to conclusions on. While many of them are policy bills, we now have hard copies of all of the appropriations bills from both chambers. On a positive note, the funding formula bill passed unanimously out of the House yesterday and now awaits the Governor's signature before being enacted into law.

Education Appropriations: As of 2pm today, the community college appropriation has decreased to a 3.1% increase, $7million. If there is anything you can do to push for something higher or closer to the $8million original appropriation, please do so now!

Here are the biggest updates on the remaining bills:

HF 2099 prohibits retaliation by a pharmacy benefits manager against a pharmacy based on the pharmacy's exercise of any right or remedy, or on the pharmacy's cooperation with the commissioner. The bill passed out of the Senate Wednesday unanimously and has now been sent to the Governor.

HF 2586 would allow teachers and other school employees to obtain professional permits to carry guns on school grounds. The bill passed out of the House Monday 62-36 and has now been sent to the Governor.

HF 2686 is the Governor's reorganization clean-up bill. It passed out of the House 63-34 on Tuesday with the adoption of the amendment to add community college's back into the implementation of AEL programs. It has now been sent to the Governor.

HF 2693/SF 2434 are the Justice Systems Appropriations Bills. They both appropriate $2,608,109 to Corrections Education.

HF 2697/SF 2432 are the Economic Development Appropriations Bills. They both appropriate the same dollar amounts for all of our programs, except they do shift the intermediary network funding to the manufacturing 4.0 initiative, thereby wiping out the intermediary network fund.

SF 574 is the mega site bill that provides tax incentives for business's proposed projects on certified sites greater than 250 acres and worth more than $1billion. It passed out of the Senate unanimously on Tuesday and has now been sent to the Governor.

SF 2385 is the Senate's Boards and Commissions Bill. On Tuesday, the House amended and passed the bill on a party-line vote. It will now have to be accepted and passed out of the Senate for the second time.

SF 2405 is the funding formula bill. It passed unanimously out of the house on Wednesday 95-0 and has now been sent to the Governor.
