2025 Trustee & Community College Leadership Awardees
Awardees were recognized at the Summer Trustee Conference on Wednesday, July 9 at Iowa Central Community College.
John P. Kibbie Award
Patrick Kibbie
Patrick Kibbie has been a dedicated trustee at Iowa Lakes Community College since 2008, serving as Vice President from 2011 to 2023. His leadership on key committees helped transform college facilities and expand hands-on learning opportunities. Patrick is also deeply involved in his community through the Palo Alto County Cattlemen’s Association, Holy Family Catholic Church, and the county fair board. A strong advocate for community colleges and student scholarships, he supports access to education through the Kibbie Family Foundation. His service and impact make him a deserving recipient of the 2025 John P. Kibbie Award.
Larry Ebbers Honorary Trustee Award
Liang Chee Wee, Ph.D.
Liang Chee Wee, Ph.D. (Dr. Wee) returned from retirement to serve as Interim Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, where he brought thoughtful leadership and deep community engagement during a time of significant board transition. With over a decade of experience as President of Northeast Iowa Community College, he helped guide trustee development, strategic planning, and a successful chancellor search. Dr. Wee is a tireless advocate for community colleges, using his strong relationships with legislators and state leaders to advance policies that benefit students statewide. Known for his transformational leadership and signature phrase, “We do life together,” he inspires authentic connection and mutual support. His unwavering dedication makes him a deserving recipient of the Larry Ebbers Honorary Trustee Award.
Community Service Award
Northwest bank
Northwest Bank was selected by Iowa Central Community College to receive this year's Community Service Award. Iowa Central is grateful for the opportunity to recognize an industry partner and values all that Northwest Bank has done to support their college, their students, and the Iowa Central community.

Deborah Tappendorf
Deborah Tappendorf, Eastern Iowa Community College Trustee, has served as the chair of the Community Colleges for Iowa board for the 2024-2025 academic year. Her leadership on the board and contribution to the community college sector are greatly appreciated.
Chief Executive Officer Leadership Award
Dr. Kristie Fisher
Dr. Kristie Fisher, President of Kirkwood Community College, has served as the chair of the Community Colleges for Iowa's Presidents group for the 2024-2025 academic year. Her leadership in the president's group and contribution to the community college sector are greatly appreciated.

Note: The 15 Years of Service Award is intended to recognize trustees in their 15th year of service. However, since 2025 marks the first year of this recognition, the CCforIA Board is honoring all currently serving trustees with 15 to 24 years of service as a one-time catch-up. Starting in 2026, the award will be presented only to those reaching their 15th year.
